The GPT Group is thrilled to officially open its newest landmark building in the heart of Parramatta’s master-planned CBD precinct.

The official opening ceremony at 32 Smith Street included a traditional smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country, a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as keynote presentations from Powerhouse Parramatta and Australian architect Fender Katsalidis.

Situated on Darug Country in Parramatta's evolving CBD, the new state-of-the-art building offers 26,800sqm across 27 floors of office space and has already attracted global companies such as QBE Insurance. GPT’s Flexible workspace, Space&Co. has two levels in the building, providing a working environment in the heart of Sydney’s second largest CBD that fosters creativity, collaboration and flexibility.

The GPT Group’s Head of Customer, Shey Hooper said the building met high demand from western Sydney residents who have in the past had to commute to the city centre for work.

“We’re proud to provide the people of western Sydney with a flexible, comfortable and harmonious work environment while also fostering the culture and identity of Parramatta. The central location allows the community to have easy access via public transport, which will be expanded to nearby Parramatta light rail and Sydney Metro West train lines, and the ability to enjoy the best Parramatta has to offer,” Ms Hooper said.

The sustainable landmark building was designed by Fender Katsalidis in consultation with Darug community, the Traditional Custodians of the land. The building was inspired by the Parramatta River with a curved design that mirrors the river’s energy flow.

Recognising Darug culture throughout the development, contemporary First Nations artworks adorn the foyer and collaboration spaces while natural materials have been woven into the fabric of the building.

GPT’s National Social Sustainability Manager, Angela Crossland said she was immensely proud of the collaborative project.

“The beauty of the experience at this location is due to the involvement of the Darug people in the development of the building, identifying the cultural stories and interpretation of this in the built design. Tenants and visitors from the wider community can now learn about and share in Darug language, stories and culture at 32 Smith Street and its public realm,” Ms Crossland said.

The building includes premium amenities and stylish spaces intended to spark creativity, including a Space&Co. floor dedicated to meeting, collaboration and connection, which can be accessed by all tenants and visitors to the building.

“It’s important to recognise that the value proposition of the office has changed, including people placing greater value on the opportunity to connect and collaborate face-to-face, in spaces that allow teams to thrive,” Ms Hooper said.

The building has leading sustainability credentials, achieving 6-Star Green Star Design and As Built ratings by the Green Building Council of Australia and a 5-Star NABERS Energy rating.
